One Day  National Seminar on Changing Perspectives of Inland Fisheries 29/12/2018

One day national seminar  on ‘Changing Perspectives of Inland Fisheries  (CPIF2018)’ was organized by Post Graduate Department of Zoology, Yogeshwari Mahavidyalaya, Ambajogai (Maharashtra) on 29th  December 2018. The seminar was organized for faculty members and  students from different universities and colleges to  discuss  various developments in inland fisheries sector of  India.

In morning, Dr. Indranil Ghosh of West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciecnces (Kolkata) graced the inaugural function as chief guest and Dr.Suresh Khursale, President, Yogeshwari Education Society presided over it. Dr.U.D. Joshi, Principal, Yogeshwari Mahavidyalaya delivered the welcome address. Convener of the seminar explained the back drop of the seminar. Appreciating the theme of the seminar, Dr.Khursale said that this kind of student oriented activities should be continued in institution. Chief guest Dr. Indranil Ghosh  highlighted the importance of  inland fisheries. Dr. Indranil Ghosh delivered a keynote address on ‘Estuarine Fisheries’. He presented detail account of types of estuaries, estuarine fisheries and  pollution in estuaries.

Dr.S.P. Chavan of Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded delivered a talk on ‘Overharvesting of inland fisheries resources and its effect on dependent water birds’. After lunch, a poster competition was inaugurated by Dr. Indranil Ghosh. Dr. C.M.Bharambe , Dr. Indranil Ghosh and Dr. S.P.Chavan  worked as judges for poster competition. Altogether 22 posters were displayed.

Dr. Swapnil Ghatge of College of Fisheries, Udgir in his presentation precisely reviewed the ‘Negative impact of exotic fish species in inland fisheries sector’. He focused on adverse impact of foreign fishes on Indian fish fauna. Different foreign species like Tilapia, common carp and thai magur have badly affected the growth of indigenous fish species.

In last scientific session, Dr. Milind Girkar, College of Fisheries, Udgir delivered a speech on ‘Reservoir fisheries of India’. He focused on pre and post fisheries management of reservoirs .He also highlighted the role of National Fisheries Development Board in reservoir fisheries development.

The valedictory function of the seminar was organized  at 4.30 pm. Adv.S.T. Karad,Vice President, (Yogehswari Education Society) and Dr. Mohan Babare (Chairman, Board of Studies in Fisheries, Dr. B.A.M. University, Aurangabad) were invited as chairman and chief guest of the valedictory function. During the review of the seminar, Dr. Vishwas Sakhare, convener of the seminar informed that the seminar was attended by 130 participants from different universities. Adv. Karad and Dr. Babare also delivered their thoughts.
